I work with a block of groggy clay that I sculpt, roughing in the details and then hollowing out the form. I’ve found I can work bigger over the years, pushing and prodding the clay more when working on a solid block. Once hollowed out, I enjoy compressing the clay, expanding and altering the form of the piece and then finishing the inside so it looks complete and just as refined as the sculpture itself. I also work with slabs.
