I was born in South Africa where I studied Fine Art at the Johannesburg Art Foundation and though I no longer live there, the forms and textures of Africa can still be seen and felt in my work. I feel fortunate to have had a childhood in Africa, surrounded by the colour and rhythm of the African people.

I now work primarily in clay using primitive methods of firing like sawdust and Naked Raku, because I feel that smoke is a more natural integration between form and surface than glaze. It also doesn't compromise the tactile quality of the clay, which is something I value in my pieces.

I now live in Whistler BC and although my work still shows a very strong African influence, I have definitely been inspired by my new West coast environment. This inspiration gave birth to my most current series of black bears.
