Artist's Talk: Allan Collier “BC Pottery 1920 – 1950” March 31, 2016
The North–West Ceramics Foundation is pleased to announce Allan Collier as their featured speaker at a free public lecture Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 pm. The lecture will be held in Room 245, North Building of Emily Carr University of Art + Design at 1399 Johnston Street, Granville Island, Vancouver. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Allan Collier is a furniture designer-maker, teacher, collector and curator based in Victoria. He has curated, written about and lent objects from his collection to exhibitions across the country. A major project, The Modern Eye: Craft and Design in Canada, 1940-1980, was exhibited at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria in 2011. Featuring over 40 pieces of furniture, 100 examples of ceramics plus printed fabrics, tapestries, appliances and lighting, this exhibition and catalogue highlighted the range of modernist expression in Canadian craft and design during this time.

Collier’s lecture, “BC Pottery 1920-1950,” discusses his latest research on BC pottery from the 1920s to the late 1940s, contextualizing the work of individuals and commercial potteries such as Royal Ariston, BC Ceramics, Crown Ceramics and Ravine Pottery (New Westminster).
